Marketwatch.com: Raju Narisetti has quit as the editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe. He will be moving to India by end May to join as the editor of HT Media’s new business paper. So what is going to be his agenda? First is to hire the staff for the paper and also to devise a web strategy. Narisetti is not looking for run of the mill journalists for his paper. He wants to hire journalists who are in the mould of the Journal. They would not be spot news types, but those who can give “in-depth” and “irreverent features” for which the scribes at the Journal are known for.
“The more I thought about it,” Narisetti told Marketwatch, “the more it seemed to make a lot of sense to try and do, essentially, a start-up that’s going to be different, in the sense of being more analytical and interpretative and less about spot news — which is the tradition of Indian publications.” Narisetti added: “My biggest challenge is going to be creating a form of journalism that is different. There is not enough of stepping back and looking forward — lighthouse reporting, as opposed to lamppost reporting.”
Narisetti is going to find it difficult hiring print journos here in India. There is not enough good talent to meet the growing demand in the Indian media sector.
