StillThere2 you Koolaide drinker ;-)

Seriously, people I agree with StillThere2 in some ways in that the job is what you make of it and you should consider what you get to take away from there. Naturally there are still redeeming qualities about the company, such as some of the folks still working there and the opportunity to work with them, the fancy office, the buzz in the press, the opportunity to have Motricity on your resume should you get what someone called "the magic envelope". I imagine there are folks who worked in a hole much worse than what some are saying about Motricity and so getting a chance to be there may be a considerable step up.

Just don't be the horse with the blinders on, riding at a break-neck pace directly off a cliff because of what you view to be redeeming qualities of the jockey riding your back. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and get what you get out of it.

BTW, props to the people who color pretty pictures using VB!!

"Rick", I think you've hit on an excellent point, that those who have "succeeded" at Motricity have done so because of the details of the job they enjoy, because of their individual ability and desire to take something away from every experience.

If Motricity wasn't working for you, and you saw it, and got out, kudos to you for being aware and taking control. Likewise, kudos to those who are still on board because there are still redeeming qualities of the company and the job. I find myself in the latter group.

Every experience is what you make of it.

So I guess Curious is afraid to take his own advice, after all.

If you'll notice, I've been posting as *me* the whole time. My handle in these posts even points to my web site; if you can't figure out who I am, then there's no hope of you figuring out the 5 or 6 other posters here whose handles I recognize as fellow former Motricity employees.

I have nothing personal invested in Motricity anymore, other than the stock options I exercised -- but I repeat myself.

I do, however, know folks who work there, and lots of folks who used to, and I can say that anyone I know that's left is there mostly *despite* management; they're in it for the details of the job that they enjoy -- they've long given up believing in the big picture that management tried to sell them, after too many botched rollouts, too many oversold promises, and too many times being told "now that we have <new big customer> we'll be able to call the shots with the carriers and have better timetables," and then prepping for the next bend-over.

I'm not afraid to say what I say as me, because I'm only calling it like I see it. It's not like any of this is a shock, it happens in a lot of startups -- the marketing and top management begin to believe their own sales pitch more than any customer ever will, and things get out of control "expanding the business" a.k.a. "spending money without making money." They begin to see getting the next round of funding as a goal instead of building a profitable business. Ryan is an extremely talented individual, but having the talent to get more funding is no good if your business is not on track to do something useful with that money.

I think you're seeing the overwhelming response on this forum because so many of us have been expecting it for such a long time; it's nice to be able to finally come out and say it. Many of us have had friends looking for work who've said "hey, Motricity is hiring, you worked there, what's it like?" and we've told them to look elsewhere. But hey, now it's in the open, and we can let out all the things we wanted to scream at management but couldn't before.

And, I admit it, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is perversely happy to be right, even if we're not happy to see our friends who are still at Motricity expecting to lose their jobs.

Say what you will about people's credibility here, refute whatever individual points you want, it's undeniable that plenty of us have considered Motricity's implosion a "when, not if" proposition.

That was after/during carrier appreciation down at Tyler's. It marked the end of the gratuitous mailroom hottie cleavage shots as you went down the stairs. Such a loss for the 2nd and 3rd floors.

You have to understand the employee, employer relationship. In many ways its adversarial. The employee has goals which compete with the employer. The employer in most case does an annual evaluation to determine whether the employee should be promoted, left in place or be disciplined or fired. The employee owes it to herself to frequently evaluate the employer against other opportunities and decide what is in the employees best interest. Its not a love or family relationship. Its business. If its ever in your best interest to move on, you need to do that on a schedule which maximizes your benefit. They don't teach this stuff in school. I had to be taken advantage of more than a few time before this sank in to my brain. I pass this knowledge hoping to save some from having to learn the hard way.

So Curious - you really want to know why I stay mum?
Mr. Wretch has a pretty litigious side that I am not sure most folks know about but I do. Why would I want to put my family in jeopardy? Why would I want to risk my safety by giving my name? Sorry, I don't trust the guy 1 inch.

He has managed to hide behind facade and money ...isn't it about time some of us enjoyed a little "flash" on our own without fear of retribution?
I am sure he is working feverishly to shut us all up here anyway.
Hell, I am shocked it has been up this long...
