Regular Indian internet urban users grew 19% in 2008 to reach 30 million
JuxtConsult Reports 35.06 Million Regular Internet Users; 19% Growth In Urban Regular Net Users
Summary:
Regular Indian internet urban users grew 19% in 2008 to reach 30 million
If this data includes Internet accessed via mobile, then this report is a Joke. The IAMAI figures peg regular broadband users at 32 – 35 Million. Other reports put 'people having accessed Internet via mobile atleast once' figures at 30 Million + = More than the number stated in this report. So either the Internet penetration in India is a joke or this report is a joke or both the above mentioned variables need to be rubbished.
http://www.watblog.com/2008/06/05/marketing-to-india-online-more-details-on-the-juxt-consult-report-we-try-and-uncover-some-stats-and-possible-flaws/ – link to my article – some analysis on the report; what it means to marketeers, and possibly some flaws in the data gathering procedure. Mentioned the interview as well :)
MRUC the independent media research body had a Committee to assess these various studies via IRS. I wonder what happened to that -or like everything they handle, they just goofed up or got mired in media politics and organsisational lethargy
