imageBerlin-based language learning startup Babbel.com has attracted funds of an undisclosed amount to add staff and freelance content contributors. Members of the site teach other other through online partnerships. The site is based on Adobe’s (NSDQ: ADBE) Air Flash framework and includes multimedia support, profiles and community features that encourage people, for example, to learn along with learners in their own city. Languages covered are French, Italian, Spanish, English or German. Babbel.com was formed by Lesson Nine, the company started by Thomas Holl and Toine Diepstraten, six months ago. Release.

  1. I have a problem with the "playful" image of the product and I do hope that the funding is significant enough for them to overcome it and become an ultimate language learning destination for everyone, including language professionals (that could also generate some profit for the company if it chooses to charge for premium services).
