Xringer, the mobile content service from Kanematsu USA, a subsidiary of Japanese Kanematsu Corp, has closed down, it seems…from its website: “It’s been an honor to serve you! going offline forever.” Not that it gained any traction anyway, but will surely like to know the story if anyone knows…is it the case of one of those doomed Japanese and Korean mobile content forays into U.S. that didn’t work?
Some historical detail on Xringer is in this PDF document.
I used to work for them. Reasons for the downfall: 1). Verizon closed the ringtone portal. After 2006, Verizon closed the ringtone portal to mobile content companies. As the result, xringer was no longer allowed to sell these content on their handsets which used to generate most of their past revenue. This decision also killed other mobile content companies such as Modtone; 2). Lack of diversity. While they were making tons of money, they did not diversify their business. Then when they realized the problem, it was too late for them; 3). Lack of understanding about the market. This has to be blamed on the business management team. The products and direction that they came up with were literally terrible. Not only they couldn't get these to generate any profit, but also wasted alot of money for nothing. 4). Parent company had enough of the BS and the end of the story.
I have been trying for months to get into xRinger on my phone….with no luck, of course.
What does one do with all their CREDITS they have with XRINGER REAL and XRINGER?
Is the company going to reimburse users for purchased creidts?
Any help, much appreciated!
While I am here….
What, if anything, can a user do when a company changes their content AFTER you have purchased credits, leaving you with a bunch of worthless purchases?
Situation….I also purchased a "bundle" of credits from mTat2 (Wallpapers, from 9Squared) because they HAD customizable wallpapers. You could take a wallpaper and add your own comments, thoughts, name etc…
I went to make a purchase last night and they did away with these wallpapers and now their selections…well….suck.
I searched through literally thousands of wallpapers and couldn't find anything to purchase…all I ever wanted was the custom wallpapers.
Now, is company going to leave their users high-n-dry, too? (Like XRinger)
Companies should NOT be allowed to make such drastic changes to their product AFTER users buy credits…this seems like a Breach Of Contract….or even the old Bait-n-Switch.
I purchased one thing and now, I do not have access to what I purchased. Does anyone know what a user can do in this situation or if MTAT2 will be giving their customers what they purchased anytime in the near future?
Of course, all they say is "NO REFUNDS"…but, I don't what a refund…I just want to purchase the wallpapers that I purchased credits for and wallpapers that were available to me at the time of purchase.
Thanks for any help!
