Hi Digital Bear, thanks for the comment. I sort of addressed the competitors in the last post I wrote about Fire Eagle (you can see it here: http://www.moconews.net/entry/419-yahoo-launches-location-service-for-developers-but-its-obviously-a-beta). The competitors are the companies that are willing to take the time to do location themselves, like handset manufacturers and carriers. It's definitely an interesting question. Who will own the location information of a consumer: a third-party, like Fire Eagle or Google, an application like Navigation, or the handset maker that embeds GPS into the phone to make it possible, like Nokia, or finally, the carrier, who by default does know where the consumer is because they are on their network....? It will probably be very competitive. Tricia

Who are the competitors to this? Does Google have a similar service or has Yahoo! beaten them to the punch? Is there a way that they can monetize it by selling local, seems like a killer commercial strategy...
