		<description><![CDATA[Some of it has to do with Guild agreements that give employees at certain publications the chance to opt in before involuntary layoffs take place. In that respect, at least some people get more of a choice. I&#039;ve seen the difference first hand and that feeling of having some modicum of control over your fate can be very important. 

One other point -- people are getting additional weeks of pay that they wouldn&#039;t if all the cuts had been made the day they were announced. Some may find that those extra weeks come in handy.]]></description>
