New York Congressman Pete King introduced a bill earlier this month in the House of Representatives that would require camera phones to make a noise when taking a picture. Under the “Camera Phone Predator Alert Act (H.R. 414),” the bill would prohibit the tones from being disabled or silenced. PC World has the explanation: “Congress finds that children and adolescents have been exploited by photographs taken in dressing rooms and public places with the use of a camera phone.” If enforcement is at all possible, it will be up to the Consumer Product Safety Commission to uphold the law, CNET reports. This sort of flies in the face of another prevailing concept supported by the government — open networks. While that typically applies to what devices can be used on what network, it can also apply to the applications on the phone and personalization.
