Disney Breaks Away From Excel In Home Video Business; To Go Direct To Retail
Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) Studios Home Entertainment India, which handles the home video business of the entertainment conglomerate, has decided to break away from its long standing local partner Excel Home Videos and adopt the direct-to-retail model, where an in-house team will do the marketing and sales and bulk of the distribution. On the distribution side, larger accounts will be handled by the Disney team, while parts of the distribution will be still handled by Excel, a Disney spokesperson said.
Excel Home Videos has been handling marketing, sales and distribution for Disney’s home video business since 2004.
Tinkerbell, from Disney
Interesting!
Disney had taken up the tough challenge by this move. I think this is a good thought cause anywhich ways excel was not doing that great job. The challenge is whether Disney can align along with the indian scenario. best of luck for disney.
Interesting Post.
Thanks
Wise move for Disney. This can absolutely minimize its distribution and marketing cost. As a result of which, a possible increase in revenue.
I feel Excel has got more penetration in the market that Disney can do directly at the current moment. If Disney is arranging some other vendor for distribution then that's different issue..but if it's direct distribution, then the apprehensions remain same..
