Regional Carrier MetroPCS To Stay Independent
The downturn has been good to prepay carriers such as MetroPCS. Following a note sale that raised half a billion dollars in cash, pay-as-you-go mobile firm MetroPCS is mulling over what to do with the money, which may include acquisitions of smaller firms, or investing into a fourth generation network, according to Bloomberg, which interviewed its CEO Roger Linquist. It will also allow the company to stay independent, or as Linquist put it,
In my opinion, MetroPCS has a great opportunity – to become the information and financial series provider of choice to the growing number of people who have not had the resources, space, or knowledge to become effective computer users BUT can now use increasingly inexpensive and powerful mobiles for their financial, medical, and other information needs.
As readers here know, adoption of powerful, featureful mobiles in the US did not take off as it did in much of Europe and Asia. MetroPCS customers did not have the opportunity to use these services as did customers on the major US carriers. As the price of featureful handsets has come down, MetroPCS has a fantastic opportunity to become not just the carrier of choice, but the information provider of choice to so many who have not made use of such network resources before – but can, via handset, NOW. And in doing so, MetoPCS have have a lock on these customers for years.
Now's the time to own your customers, Metro. Please don't blow it!
