Who Is The ‘Yet-To-Be-Named’ MD At Indiatimes?
A Bennett, Coleman staff memo yesterday announcing the appointment of Rishi Khiani as CEO of Indiatimes, said the new CEO will report to the “yet-to-be-named” MD and chairman of Times Internet Ltd, according to sources who have seen the memo. TIL chairman is Vineet Jain, who is managing director at Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. Who is the “yet-to-be-named MD”?
The wording of the memo has set off speculation at BCCL and TIL about the post that is being kept vacant.
We reported yesterday that Khiani will likely work closely with Satyan Gajwani, fiancĂ© of BCCL vice chairman Sameer Jain’s daughter Trishla Jain.
A BCCL spokesperson did not comment.
wow, this post added literally no value to any reader. i enjoy the blog but post meaningful content.
@rakesh
Unless your head is halfway up your rear, I think you should be fascinated by this post… I as a reader got some GREAT speculation based on what's apparently an actual memo related to the head of TIL!!
And SK has done it in a smart way without risking litigation :-p
i guess im just less and less impressed with contentsutra… all he said is that the MD is yet to be named… for all we know it could be Rishi after some time, or Vineet Jain… not sure there's some 'master plan' behind it all… i think SK is just trying to stir up a controversy…
and how can you blog about the media industry without knowing how to spell the VC of BCCL's name right – it's Samir Jain!
I find the story quite fascinating as well.
Someone in TIL should be getting that sinking feeling, just about now.
This is not new though. This structure is similar to the structure that is (was?) in place at ENIL. AP Parigi was MD and he had CEO(s) under him. and VJ is Chairman. In TIL, VJ is MD and Chairman.
Legally speaking, the CEO is not a recognised designation in India. The designation that matters under law is… (you guessed it) MD.
But this yet-to-be-named thingy is par for the course as well for The Times. For e.g. in BCCL all deputations are temporary. I think Lord Hee Hee knows what I am talking about. ;)
BTW, what is the story of APP resigning/retiring? Virgin deal?
TN Prabhu? Whts d chance?
Lord Hee Hee, Quite unlikely! It would be somebody more senior. More in the leagues of people like MS or RS.
Shyam…MS or RS…that's too intrstng…hv u heard anything to that effect on the grapevine.
RS i think is more likely…old ENIL/TIL hand so his return to the Times fold would be in keeping with past trends of the group. What say ?
Wherez TN headed?
You are reading more into this. I suggested leagues ;-). However things do fit in with APP moving out. ENIL + TIL is a good portfolio. Almost matches the current profile :-)
