As Acer enters the smartphone market, the computer maker is prepping an accompanying app store to better compete with the likes of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL), Nokia (NYSE: NOK), Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC) and others. The app store will likely launch in the coming months as Acer releases additional products, reports Mobile Magazine. Acer has already released two smartphones based on the Windows Mobile operating system, but plans five more product launches this year, including an Android device.

It’s unclear how Acer and other computer manufacturers, including Dell, will effectively compete in the highly competitive smartphone market, and now even the app store arena is getting crowded. Acer will have to figure out how to woo developers, especially since both Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) and Google (NSDQ: GOOG) have mobile storefronts of their own.
