AdMob: Apple's App Market Worth Nearly $200 Million Each Month

Mobile ad net AdMob estimates that the Apple’s App Store paid market is nearly $200 million per month, while the market for Google’s Android is only $5 million per month. That either demonstrates the potential growth for Android’s paid-app market or just how weak the Google (NSDQ: GOOG) device’s position is starting from. The estimate was based on an online survey AdMob commissioned, which found that 50 percent of iPhone users said they buy at least one app each month, along with 40 percent of iPod touch owners, compared with just 19 percent of those who bought an app using Android. Release
When it comes to downloading the most apps, free and paid, Apple’s iPod touch are nearly twice as active the owners of the iPhone and Google’s Android. AdMob surveyed 1,117 users (breaking it out by device, 390 Android, 380 iPhone and 347 iPod touch users participated in the online questionnaire). Of course, the estimated market size for Android paid applications is significantly smaller than iPhone paid apps, given both the smaller number of Android devices and lower adoption of paid apps among those users.
I would love to know who "commissioned" this report? Did AdMob contract with an outside agency or is this the monthly AdMob data.
AdMob still claims to be the leading ad network for mobile when they say "AdMob claims to be the worldâs largest mobile ad network, serving more than 7 billion ads per month to more than 160 countries and territories."
This doesn't jive with our findings at siliconANGLE
Looks to be over the top, 200M each month spread over 45M device owners means nearly 4$ on average spend per user. would like to verify the numbers through some other stakeholders as well.
John-can you share your findings from siliconAngle.
Just following up on some questions….
1. AdMob conducted the survey themselves using inventory on their own network to ask users questions. There was no incentive offered to participate in the survey. There were 1,117 total respondents: 390 Android, 380 iPhone and 347 iPod touch. The survey ran for one week from August 14 – August 21st.
2. According to statistics from Nielsen, which I cannot stress enough are not to be used as more than a guide because Nielsen was not able to confirm the numbers, AdMob is not the largest ad network. The full post can be found here (http://moconews.net/article/419-the-real-list-of-the-largest-mobile-ad-newtork-sort-of/), but according to the list, AdMob is fifth after Millennial, Google, Yahoo and AOL. (Once again, you should take this information lightly).
Hope this helps.
