VERIZON NEEDS TO GET RID OF AT LEAST 35% OF ITS FIELD TECHS IN THE NYC FOOTPRINT. MOST OF THE TECHS HIRED SINCE 1996 HAVE LITTLE OR NO TECHNICAL ABILITY AND ARE LAZY. THEY ARE KILLING THE COMPANY WITH THIER LACK OF LOYALTY AND GENERATIONAL ENTITLEMENT MENTALITY. ONCE THIS IS DONE THE REMAINING TECHS, WHICH HAVE A BETTER WORK ETHIC, WILL CARRY THE COMPANY TO FULL FIOS DEPLOYMENT AND COPPER MAINTENANCE. FINALLY THEIR RETIREMENT WILL COINCIDE WITH VERIZON'S NEED FOR FIELD TECHS RESULTING WITH A MORE PROFESSIONAL AND PROFITABLE COMPANY. THE ONLY LOST WILL BE THOSE POST 1996 HIRES WHO ARE BASICALLY A BUNCH OF BUMS WHO SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN HIRED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I have also been on the FIOS waiting list for what seems like years. I called Verizon directly several times trying to get a home install, especially when I saw their FIOS trucks in the neighborhood. Yet, they said they didn't have service to my area. I was finally tempted by the local cable company's triple play offer, who happily added extra bandwidth for free (read: 1 year promotion).

Later, I found out that my neighbor, literally across the street, got FIOS after much gnashing of the teeth and fussing with field techs that were late and/or unresponsive. The way he tells it, they just didn't seem to want to do the work or create a positive install experience.

If I were Verizon, I would look at how well they are being represented in the field by their techs, as my neighbor's impression wasn't very favorable. Low install volumes and low new customer acquisitions may be due, in part, to under-performing field techs in areas that actually have FIOS service.

Once my 2 year contract is over with my cable company, perhaps I'll look at Verizon again, but I'm happy enough with my current service at discounted 2 year prices on triple-play service.

I've been trying to subscribe to FIOS for years, and was never in an area where it was available, despite being subjected to near-constant advertising for the service.

And lest you think I've been living in remote areas, they've been two spots in New York City and one in Los Angeles.

If they can't even get decent coverage in the two biggest media markets in America, then what hope do they have to expand their subscribers in any real capacity? Here I am, DYING to give them my money, and I can't!
