Publishing Round-Up: London Lite Closure Date; Lonely Planet Stats; Bild iPhone Blocking

London Lite: Associated Newspapers’ London Lite will shut this Friday (the 13th), after a period of “consultation” in which there was only ever going to be one outcome for the loss-making title. Some 36 staff will now be made redundant and the Evening Standard will have the London free newspaper market all to itself.Release.

Lonely Planet: Some usage stats from the BBC Worldwide-owned travel publisher: the company has clocked up 400,000 iPhone app downloads; it has 600 Kindle titles available; there are 659,000 registered users on its Thorn Tree forum and Lonelyplanet.com attracts more than five million unique users a month. Bild iPhone app: If you want mobile readers to shell out for your paid app, you could always restrict access to your mobile browser. That’s what German paper Bild is doing: iPhone users will be blocked from accessing Bild.de via their phone’s browser in an attempt to encourage them to pay for Bild‘s new app. From Techcrunch.
