Google, Amazon Offer Indie Bloggers Another Way To Make Money

While big publishers try to figure out how to get millions of web users to pay for their content, indie bloggers continue to churn out blog posts for free, or barely monetized with search and display ads from Google’s AdSense — if they’re lucky. Now bloggers using Google’s Blogger platform have another option: affiliate sales revenues from Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN). The two companies partnered to make Amazon’s self-serve affiliate sales program accessible through Blogger; users that refer sales to Amazon get up a 15 percent referral fee per purchase.
Amazon’s platform lets bloggers insert a link or an image of a product in their posts, without needing to change anything on the back end. So someone writing about the pictures they took on a recent trip, could note that they used a Canon digital camera and include a link to the make and model in their post. The same goes for a book reviewer, writing about the latest NYT best-seller.
Giving Blogger users access to Amazon affiliate sales is a good move for Google (NSDQ: GOOG), as it gives potential blog owners another reason to choose Blogger over the glossier WordPress, since WordPress doesn’t allow free users to run ads. In a statement, Google Blogger product manager Rick Klau says as much: “Our goal is … to make Blogger the easiest platform for bloggers to make money on.” Release.
Bad headline. This is an ‘ease-of-use’ change more than anything else. Blogger members have always been able to create an affiliate-coded link, it just took more than two clicks.
Hey Tameka,
What a very interesting post…
I actually use both the Blogger and WordPress platforms.
No disrespect towards Google, but one of the reasons that I
started using WordPress is because it was easier to customize
than Blogger.
Google has several top-notch tools that I just love, but the Blogger
platform has some catching up to WordPress.
I’m excited to hear that Google is working on making Blogger the easiest platform for bloggers to make money on!
We all know that powerful outcomes can result when large businesses such as Google and Amazon get together.

Google adding this feature will not only increase their web revenue, but it will also create a nice on-going relationship with Amazon affiliates that both Google and Blogspot users can benefit from easily.
I’m surprised that Google isn’t promoting it more when you log in to your blogger interface. Even after reading your article and clicking on monetize I almost missed the Amazon affiliates tag.
However, once I did and added the widget, it’s really going to be top of mind when I’m writing a post. The execution is well done. I’ve probably been an Amazon affiliate since I started my first blog in 1997 (yes, I did say 1997), but I don’t think I’ve posted a link to Amazon in at least half a dozen years. Going to be a smart move for both companies and something we’ll see more of in the future. Guarantee it.
This is really amazing to know how these big companies come up with ways for bloggers to make money. Innovation plays big parts!
Personally i think that it will take more than this method to truly make money online on your blogs but think that this is a great move forward.
I still feel that it doesn’t make much difference in the end. For me, its all about the Content which eventually overshadows the things being said about Blogger or WordPress. If you are a quality blogger then worrying over these topics is just a waste of time. Just pick either any of these platforms, post frequently, keep it fresh, keep it original, have quality…I bet your blogging will get you to the top in no time provided you are following these tips seriously.

Monetize blog traffic with Amazon doesn’t seems to work as well as Google AdSense.
