Citysearch Adds Android To Its Local, Mobile App Lineup

Citysearch launched its Mobile by Citysearch app for Android today, meaning it now has an app available for each of the “core” smartphone OS’: Android, Palm’s WebOS, the BlackBerry and the iPhone. In addition to the standard search, reviews and GPS-based mapping features one would expect, Mobile by Citysearch also includes tools that automatically calculate how to split a bill, as well as the ability to quickly send links via e-mail, SMS and Twitter.
The Mobile by Citysearch Android app comes well over a year after the company first launched its iPhone app, and at what seems to be a crucial time period in Google’s mobile OS’ short history: Developers are split on whether Android is worth spending the time and resources to develop unique apps for.
Some, like Gameloft, have been vocal about their plans to focus more on the iPhone — but endorsements (and attention) from other big publishers like IAC-owned Citysearch could inspire smaller developers to continue to try for success in the Android market.
