Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) CEO Carol Bartz made $47 million in total compensation last year, according to Yahoo’s just-filed proxy statement. That includes roughly $13 million in stock awards, $29 million in options, $2.5 million to make up for benefits she forfeited at her previous employer, and $109,945 in apparently very well-earned attorneys’ fees she incurred while negotiating her contract. That’s a huge number, although Yahoo clarifies that $42 million of Bartz’s pay — the options and stock awards — hasn’t been realized and is tied to certain metrics that need to be met.

CTO Ari Balogh — who announced his resignation earlier this month — received $5.6 million in total pay, including $187,362 to compensate him for his move to Sunnyvale. Wonder if he’ll pay that back.

  1. The re-couped attorney’s fees for her own contract negotiation from before she was hired makes John Thain’s $1200 wastebasket seem like a justifiable expense.

  2. None of these executive types are EVER worth the ridiculous compensation awarded them unless they are founders who did it from the ground up and put in the sweat equity.
