Nokia Dumping Symbian For MeeGo On Future N-Series Devices

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) will use MeeGo, the Linux-based operating system it is developing with Intel (NSDQ: INTC) in its premium N-series devices in an attempt to better compete with offerings from Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) and Google (NSDQ: GOOG).

Seems most of the journalists don’t do their homework properly, or have short term memory loss problem.

We’ll have to wait and see. I think it means that there will be only two N-series devices N8 and N9 from now on and N8 is Symbian based and N9 is Meego based. Thus N8-01 would be a S^4 device.

There’s some confusion here. The N800/810/900 didn’t use Symbian, but rather the Linux-based Maemo operating system developed by Nokia. That worked OK and supported stylus input and multi-tasking. The other Nseries phones were (and are) Symbian, which seems to lack the technical foundation to compete with Android.
