San Mateo, CA.-based GetJar has concocted a plan to buy mobile games from developers and then turn around and give them away for free to customers.
The pilot project, called GetJar+, will cost the company money, but it hopes that by giving away premium content for free, it will drive enough traffic to the site to more than make up for it. The company’s business model is to give away all applications for free, and then charge developers for premium placement, making traffic a critical component. Currently, it’s generating around 100 million downloads a month.
The company’s first partnership is with game developer Glu Mobile (NSDQ: GLUU). GetJar is paying for four of Glu
