A report comparing how different geographies have adopted mobile technologies has found that the U.S. has pulled ahead of Europe when it comes to being the most connected, while users in Japan were still the most advanced, according to comScore, which says it is the first comparative report it has done of its kind.
It found that for the month of June more than 75 percent of consumers in Japan used devices to connect to media (for browsing, accessing applications or downloading content), compared to 43.7 percent in the U.S. and 38.5 percent in Europe.
Europe was the strongest, however, when it came to sending text messages. In the month of June, 81.7 percent of Europeans sent a text, compared to 66.8 percent in the U.S., and only 40.1 percent in Japan. Japanese users ranked highest for email usage at 54 percent, whereas U.S. consumers were most likely to use instant messaging at 17.2 percent.
The U.S. led the pack when it came to social networking and blogging at 21.3 percent; followed by Japan at 17 percent and Europe at 14.7 percent. Other categories including capturing photos (Japanese users were most likely at 63 percent); watching TV/video (Japanese were the most likely at 22 percent); and listening to music (Europeans were most likely at 24.2 percent).
