"That sort of gets it to where Virgin Media (NSDQ: VMED) has been for some time in on-demand, albeit with a superior EPG UI…"

It's in no way comparable to what Virgin offers today.

Sky Anytime+ UI is slow and clunky, content (including trailers) take ages to load and that's just low quality SD. Heaven help them if they ever get round to offering true HD VOD and 3D VOD like Virgin.

Also, if you're on Sky's basic tv, phone & broadband bundle (a whopping £40 with HD mix) your service is capped at 2GB/month (internet & VOD) so you'll need to pay an extra £7.50 per month for 'unlimited' viewing. Content is also sparse if you're not a Sky movie subscriber and it SD only. No BBC iPlayer, ITV Net Player, 4OD, Music on Demand etc.

Virgin VOD beats Sky on price, on content, quality and soon it will also wipe the floor with Sky+ HD with the new TiVo HD box.

It's also a pity to see Sky is restricting it at launch to sky broadband customers, especially when Sky does not offer a service capable of delivering high quality VOD.

Nice try, but forever destined to be a poor man's cable.
