So, Universal Studios may actually be right about their stance, but stupid. I mean, really, should they be trying so hard to make sure Prince's music does not get played in a public place where people may listen to it and go buy the song, or even just develop an interest in music by Prince. The video isn't about the music, it's about the boy dancing. The music is in the background of the scene shot in a private home. The family didn't overdub the soundtrack later and put the video out to make money.

Yeah, but what about getting the approval of the owner before using the material. Would you steal a painters paint because you felt like painting a signboard on your house?

To send out a takedown notice is stupid. Not because they have no right, but because sites such as YouTube are free advertising! Many times I had purchased songs because a video either on the website, or on their old TV network, reminded me of a song's existance. This also holds true for television shows, as a matter of fact I downloaded "Hot Blooded" on I-Tunes, even though I never liked Foreigner, nor that song, but because it was featured in "Bones", I just had to have it. The record companies need to "wake up and smell the profits". There is nothing better than FREE advertising, especially in these tough economic times, so why look a gift horse in the mouth? I say, " Let's Go Crazy", pour on the videos, and pump up the profits! But you can bet, that I will never purchase another song that Prince has ever made or will do in the future, just because of that takedown policy.
