One more nail was driven into MySpace’s former identity as a social network with Thursday’s announcement of an integration that allows Facebook users to deepen their entertainment interests on the News Corp (NSDQ: NWS). site.

The relationship is effective today for global deployment. A Facebook user can use Facebook Connect to tap into MySpace, which will absorb data on the users’ “likes” via the Like button functionality, as well as their interests, and then match that information with relevant entertainment experiences on MySpace. Last month, MySpacerepositioned itself as a “social entertainment destination” intent on matching users with content from the worlds of music, movies, TV and gaming.

Billed as a “Mashup” in a joint press conference conducted by MySpace CEO Mike Jones and Facebook VP of platforms and partnerships Dan Rose, the announcement was first teased late Wednesday.

“This is a great example of MySpace’s new direction, which is very focused on entertainment,” said Jones.”This brings together two strategies that make a lot of sense in a a partnership.”

“Mashup” is not the first collaboration between the two companies; MySpace users have already been able to sync up with Facebook status updates.
