Foursquare TV Show In The Works

You know you’ve made it as a technology service when Hollywood comes calling in hopes of developing a TV show. But this new deal between Foursquare and unscripted-TV producer Endemol USA sounds like there’s real potential.
It’s not clear what exactly will come of the exclusive development deal (as reported by WorldScreen) the check-in service has signed with Endemol, the global powerhouse behind formats including Big Brother and Deal Or No Deal.
But a TV should could be a great marketing vehicle for Foursquare. Think some kind of Amazing Race-ish scenario, where mobile-wielding contestants run from one destination to the next. There would be some natural multiplatform components to such a program, which is rare given that’s typically awkwardly shoehorned into most programs.
The Endemol-Foursquare deal is reminiscent of the brouhaha last year involving a deal Twitter struck with production companies that got the blogosphere riled up about the possibility of a Twitter TV show. But co-founder Biz Stone played down the pact, which is becoming something of a perennial development for the company: Reuters reported last week that Twitter was developing a news network, which the company had to deny all over again.
I question their use of funding for this sort of marketing. Marketing is key, but not sure about this. Also, i would recommend beefing up features to allow users to see where their friends are going and like easier.
@Chris i imagine this is a revenue generator and not a use of any funds whatsoever. Even if it was its an excellent way to get the product in front of massive audiences and exposure beyond the social media echo chamber.
