Amazed that the generic “App Store” was granted exclusively to begin with. This is a lot like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ fighting over the generic “Donut Store” phrase. I guess the early bird gets the worm. As long as Apple declared “App” = “Apple” on their original filing they should win out.

On second thought, this is a Microsoft ploy, or their lawyers are great at sales. Microsoft can still create collateral with “Application Store” on it, and people will call it “App Store” anyway.

I hope Windows Mobile 7.0 works well (I’m prototyping now). But based on how PocketPC through Mobile 6.0 went for us developers — as a backup plan, Microsoft should file today with the USPTO for exclusivity to “Crapp Store”.

Microsoft has every right to go through this process, and I honestly don’t care about the outcome. But if “App Store” is determined to be generic, will MS give up exclusive rights to “Windows” and “Office” as well?

“App” is a play on Apple? Wow! I totally didn’t get it. I thought “app” was short for application, as in “applications” that fit on a screen without enough pixels to waste them spelling out the entire word “application.” And I thought it was such an apt name… I guess not. I guess it was just dumb luck that Apple they came up with the right name for it.
