message i got in the article is journalist are feeling pressure to perform or aol will simply go to the streets and get bloggers to provide content at a cheaper price,,, and prolly more reflective of what the readers want.

@John Sorry if you found it "totally convoluted" but I was trying to raise
the problem without a he-said-he said rundown of what's going on with them.
It's a problem to have two key assets warring with each other because the
two are involved in a public spat that, in the short term, is drawing
attention away from Armstrong's message in tech/media circles and in the
near/long term keeps AOL from making the most of having strong tech blogs in
house.

As for the term "step-sibs" -- in other circumstances, I might call them
corporate siblings.

Interesting point, Joe. But I have to say that this paragraph is totally convoluted:
"TechCrunch and Engadget are barely mentioned in Auletta’s post but it’s not hard to see the melodrama of the tech step-sibs making a cameo if only the timing were different. The company can’t afford the distraction. Armstrong’s latest pitch is hard enough to get across without being drowned out from inside."

TechCrunch is bad for AOL if it keeps trying to incite a war with Engadget. But if those are the only AOL publications with strong personalities, everything else gets watered down under blanket brand names.
