can’t we just give credits and urls posted from the source of articles? i think that will help in promoting each other site/s as well.

Mark H, thanks for your comment. In many—probably most—Righthaven lawsuits, credit is given and often a link-back is given to the original source. I only say “probably” I can’t be 100% sure — the company has filed more than 200 lawsuits and I’ve personally read only about two dozen of those.

Giving proper credit is considered ethically important on the internet, but it doesn’t protect one from a copyright claim at all.

It seems that they are concerned with people copy and pasting news articles, whether from a free site or behind a paywall. To Righthaven, does it matter whether or not the source URL and byline are included?

I wonder in some cases if this is about properly recognizing the written work, or the advertisers that cover the rest of the article’s page.
