Wireless firm Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) is joining a growing list of investors that are betting on ChaCha, a service that lets users call or text message a query and receive an answer shortly afterwards. The company is investing $3 million in the company as part of an add-on to the $20 million round of funding that it raised just three months ago. The round was led by new investors VantagePoint Venture Partners and Rho Ventures.
ChaCha says it is growing incredibly rapidly. In its announcement today it says it now reaches 32 million unique users a month. Only three months ago it said it was reaching 21 million unique users a month via its mobile service and website. This latest funding brings the company’s total backing to $75 million. ChaCha initially let people communicate with a human guide while searching online but switched strategies in early 2008, successfully moving into the mobile space.
