U.S. 2010 digital revenue: $340 million
Snapshot: This major online marketing services firm has three units: ValueClick Media is one of the oldest ad networks; Commission Junction is an affiliate marketer and calls itself the “undisputed worldwide leader” in its space; and Mediaplex sells online ad technology. The company has sold other, non-core businesses over the last several years, including its online lead-gen business in February 2010.
Key digital move in 2010: In August, ValueClick purchased financial-education site Investopedia from Forbes for $42 million in an attempt to boost its position in financial-services advertising.
