With George Kliavkoff now heading up Hearst bill payment management start-up Manilla, Neeraj Khemlani has been named to succeed him as EVP & deputy group head of Hearst Entertainment & Syndication. Separately, Hearst experienced some other personnel changes, as Ashley Parrish, most recently content director for the women and teen networks at Hearst Digital Media, has signed on as the editorial director for DailyCandy, the Comcast/NBC (NSDQ: CMCSA) Universal-owned fashion and entertainment e-newsletter operator.
Khemlani joined Hearst in March 2009 as VP and special assistant to the CEO for digital media, Hearst Corporation, reporting directly to Frank Bennack, after leaving his post as the head of Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) News.
Parrish, meanwhile, departs Hearst after eight years of overseeing the websites for Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Harpers Bazaar, Seventeen, and Redbook.
The personnel changes come as both companies are going through a transformation. Hearst has been increasingly focused on apps and e-commerce as part of its mix. The creation of Manilla, which is involved in the business of setting up an online account management system for consumers’ bill paying and subscriptions, reflects that broader view of a what a media company does. Promoting Khemlani represents the balance Hearst is trying to achieve in preserving its traditional media business, while looking for different ways of translating its properties in the digital arena.
For DailyCandy, Parrish is similarly considered a seasoned media hand, but not someone too mired in the traditional print realm. As DailyCandy looks to looks for a way to get closer to NBCU’s properties through its existing parent Comcast, Parrish will be charged with identifying new ways to approach product development related to advertising and e-commerce.
