I find the relationship between Google and national governments really interesting. Although government has legal and political authority, it’s the people who mediate the internet who have the final say over any of us–this is both fascinating and frightening at the same time.

Michael1000, thanks for your comment. I would tend to agree that many of the takedowns do not seem to be cause for concern. I didn’t really intend to imply that people necessarily “have to” be concerned about these takedowns. To me, it’s just interesting… a snapshot of how governments and courts are trying to control online content, whether for good or bad.

So many of the requests appear to be related to civil lawsuits brought against defamation and impersonation. Why, exactly, are people supposed to be concerned about these takedowns?
