Robert is right. Google thinks they deserve something for nothing, and then want to charge left and right for the search ads that android will generate. Google would have been smarter to buy into the consortium than complain afterwards. In addidtion, Google would be smart to license from Microsoft, as it can quickly pay any licensing fees with just several months worth of search ads per phone/license.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Nortel patents weren't open source licenses. So my question is this, if Google had won the bid would they had let everyone that was currently in a paid license agreement out of their contract and let them have the license for free? My guess is they would had taken the money. Why is it that Google believes that their partners should get something for free? The reality is that Nortel would likely had sued the Google partners had they not been in a bankruptcy situation or they would have paid a licensing fee. When these phone makers were making Windows Mobile phones they were paying these licensing fees because they were paying for the Windows Mobile. Google thinks they should be exempt from paying those fees ...
