Well, the article is right. For Nokia it is not about what OS is winning, it is about what phone maker is winning (it might be different for Elop, as he still really works for MS).

The most profitable phone maker is Apple. They have one own platform = Differentiation.
The second most profitable phone maker (and likely last quarter's leader in units shipped) is Samsung. They support Android, Windows and Bada = Choice.

Nokia is going for no choice and no differentiation. Which leaves them "cheap" as the only winning strategy. So, even if they should succeed (and I do not see that), the outcome will never be close to what they used to have (and will likely not please their investors either). They have now voted for the OS that is most behind, it has not even got support for multiple CPU cores and won't have it before the rest of the market has already moved to quad-core SoCs, it does not support video telephony, no 1080p output due to CPU limitations, some features are US-only (like ESPN and most MS content offers), but they do not release their phones there... a winning strategy sure looks different.

Without Nokia WP7 has managed to achieve 1.6% global market share (less than any competitor, even Bada sells better). The only question they had to answer yesterday is: will the new Nokia phones bring anything to the market that is destined to change that. By all means: they did not.

"just another window phone"?

Would you rather write "just an obsoleted Symbian phone"?

Or, "just another overcrowded Android phone"?

What else would you call it if not Window phone on window OS? Is window overcrowded to call just another window phone?

Nokia still employs their hardware design engineers. If not Nokia hardware, would you be expecting outsourced Chinese hardware design??

DUH!

Nokia Drive application allows you to download maps. So complete offline navigation(no need for caching), no need of any signal for drive and comes free with Nokia phones. Similarly, Nokia Music app is a free streaming app with no account needed. see this : http://www.wpcentral.com/so-why-nokia-music-we-explain
Nokia ESPN sure is a sports application, but nicely integrated and is great for sports fans.

What are you talking about? This has hooks everywhere. You can easily tie a WP7 device into any Win 7 computer (and soon Win 8) plus it automatically backs all of your phone's data into Microsoft's Skydrive platform (which gives you 25 GB of storage... for free). Next time, please be a little more informed when you choose to throw your hat into a discussion.

Thanks,

The Informed
