The Brooklyn Bureau, a nonprofit local news site with backing from the Knight Foundation, is now live. The site will focus on civic affairs and investigative reporting, particularly in the borough’s less trendy neighborhoods.
The site is run by nonprofit civic news organization City Limits, which also owns a broader site focusing on civic affairs across New York City. The Brooklyn Community Foundation and Knight Foundation are each providing $50,000 for the first two years. The Brooklyn Community Foundation is also financially supporting Brooklyn College’s Center for the Study of Brooklyn in its efforts to “analyze statistical data and develop neighborhood and borough-wide trend reports,” which will be posted to Brooklyn Bureau.
Stories at launch include investigations of hunger in Brooklyn, rezoning wars downtown and ongoing controversy at P.S. 20 in Fort Greene.
