I’ve recently sent a second submission to Kindle Singles. The first was rejected, but afterwards I went through the manuscript and found a few errors that had slipped past my numerous edits. I don’t know if that was the reason for the rejection, because they didn’t indicate any particular reason. This new submission is an entirely different story. The program definitely has a lot of promise, especially for upcoming authors. I’m surprised that a lot of my peers haven’t even heard of it…

Actually, Amazon provides extensive editing and proofreading in producing a work. That was the case for my Single, Amazon was great each step of the way.

Combined with your overview article, this is superb reporting. Such clear detail, combined with a vivid sense of the real advantages and, yes, disadvantages of the program. I think it’s important for authors to recognize that Amazon doesn’t do all of the things that traditional publishers do (proofreading, outside promotions) but at the same time does some things that no other publisher can do (provide exceptional promotional opportunities to reach Kindle users while offering very fast project turnaround).

I got such a clear sense of the excitement of watching publishing reinvent itself, particularly because your picture includes a glimpse of the real creators — authors and creative editors — who lead the charge.

I have a Single, “Hazy Shade of Winter,” on Amazon. I thoroughly enjoyed the publication process. The assistant editor I worked with knows her business. The Singles program is really about the author getting the best work out there for readers.

Thanks for the info! Although I find it funny that Amazon has “allowed” them to break their NDA to release sales figures. This is even more ridiculous than Oracle telling customers that they can’t release performance stats.
