I agree it would make a big difference for someone like you. eBay isn’t the only way to get money for a used one. You also can trade it in on Amazon and some other places for cash. Good luck.

I had the iPad 2 and was quite happy with it. then I heard about what they were selling for on eBay and Amazon, so I put mine up for sale thinking, okay I’m fine with what I have and if I manage to sell it, I will buy the new one! Well, it sold and I got the new one. And I’m here to tell you it’s like night and day in terms of the display. I’m a photographer and very fussy about my photos, and I can vouch that this better display is amazing. I think my photos on this new display are actually sharper than the original photos!

But the higher resolution / retina display is NOT a trick. It is a feature that improves the overall experience of using the new iPad. And it’s in the device until something better comes along from the industry.

IF Apple can put an 8MP camera in the iPhone, then why doesn’t the iPad have it instead of the 5MP camera?

Also, I would like it if these tablets would have the ability to upgrade the storage using removable cards as in our smart phones.

I guess that means the “eye pixel tester guy” wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a 720 vs. 1080 TV either – lol, I just got the new iPad and I have the iPad 2, and there is a huge difference. It’s pretty easy to see the difference.

Next time you run your test, make sure you turn the brightness of the screen up before doing the test.

Thanks for the advice, Carl. It’s not as obvious as you think on every page, particularly the one we were looking at first. As I mentioned, that shifted as we went through more. Part of the credit goes to The Daily for doing such a good job optimizing the design for iPad 2.

Gimmick isn’t a pejorative word here. The retina display is the main pitch for this model, the hangs being pushed as the reason to get it.

You definitely can see differences from app to app and in more than video. But I’m saying that for a lot of people the difference isn’t enough to merit a full upgrade from 2 to 3 and that the iPad 2 will work fine for many. Think of it like audio: some people are content with MP3s and others want lossless, some people are ok with iPod standard-issue headsets and others want Beats.

I think you and I agree about the value of getting the new iPad if you are spending a lot of time reading — if for instance, you plan to use it as an e-reader. But I also know a lot of people looking at tablets as potential mixed-use devices who will be fine with the iPad 2 — and not everyone who shops for a tablet sees $100 as a small difference.

I bought the new iPad coming from the iPad 2, and I still have both devices so I can compare them side by side. And let me tell you, the difference in the screen is stunning. You”ve got to be a 90-year-old with horrible cataracts not to see the difference. It is a huge difference. I would worry about someone who claims not to see the difference, and doesn’t see it as a huge leap forward.

I’m extremely happy with the upgrade! Everything is butter smooth, extremely fast, and the entire experience is better, mostly due to this amazing screen. The AT&T LTE is extremely fast as well. In fact it’s quite dangerous because it is easy to forget to shut it off when I get back home, not realizing that I’m actually not on Wi-Fi, and burn through my data allotment.

I’m writing this with the new dictation feature, and it seems like a complete winner as well, just as I suspected judging from how well the iPhone 4S does.
