some universities would accept Coursera credits – this is what i read at the SaaS course forum – so one could potentially combine the classes taken on premises with those online – i think it’s a great model

If successful, more people will have access to great educational content. But universities exist today in large part as required preparation for entering the workforce. I don’t see this immediately helping people get better jobs, though it may make them more globally aware and involved in day-to-day public thought. I can’t imagine being impressed by and hiring someone whose resume says “took Princeton/Stanford courses through Coursera for 4 years.” The labor market will still operate in the same way unless someone disrupts THAT market. Point it: a startup needs to disrupt the labor market, if possible.

I hope they are addressing the need to restructure the royalty flow in the textbook business. Then make ALL textbook available electronically. It’s 2012 we don’t need to carry any book, anywhere, at anytime!

Expanding availability of high quality education, brilliant. But, yes but, I remember my uni running a subject online to save money and reach more ppl without facing parking, admin and faculties cost burdens.. the online course had good capacity for contact with peers and great content but the online environment offered a disgracefully lower quality learning and interaction experience.

That’ what High Speed Universities is all about, to further the education of students. They need more than a high school degree today, they need at least 2 years of college, preferrably 4, and then we’re going to work with communities so they can grow economically and create more jobs for our young people

How about Egyptian? I really want to know what they are really thinking now (of course, it shouldn’t be like ancient Hebrew Barbarically translating their gods in Hollywood movies now).
