I don’t understand why CBS, FOX, & NBC execs don’t want us to enjoy commercial-free TV. I’m a DISH employee – AutoHop is great because you can easily watch commercial-free TV. Public Knowledge, a consumer advocacy group, is taking a stand for consumers by creating a petition that tells CBS, FOX, & NBC media to keep their hands out of your living room & DVR.
The networks are only upset because, as when people first started streaming TV on the Internet, it forced them out of their comfort zone and made them think outside the box a little as far as how to reach consumers with their advertising if they weren’t watching the shows on TV. Well, people have been skipping commercials for as long as they’ve had DVRS; even longer, if you count the days when people would record shows with their VCRs and then fast forward through the commercials. I mean, it’s not as though the commercials are being deleted; if you want to watch them, you still can. What my employer Dish has done is simply given customers like myself the option, and ultimately, options are what the consumer wants.
