I know a lot of avid readers who have made the switch or, like me, stay with a mix. Authors who limit themselves to one kind or another also limit their potential reach. For some, particularly self-publishing, digital is the only or best option. But print authors who avoid digital completely are missing an opportunity -- one that eventually they won't be able to afford to miss.

Great story - Fahrenheit 451 was my favorite book when I was younger. I'm sure I have the paperback somewhere but am sort of inspired to load it on my kindle and take it to bed with me tonight - way less dusty.

Thanks for taking the time to write here. Many of his comments predate the Kindle, etc. The laptop remarks come from an essay published in a 2005 book.

And I appreciate that you can pick a book and take it around on an e-reader -- I should given the amount I read on them -- but I'm not giving up print. For me it will continue to be a blend.

It seems from this that Bradbury wasn't familiar with ebook readers such as the Kindle. His comments seem only applicable to reading content via computer.

"You can’t take a computer to bed. You can take a book to bed.” You can also take a Kindle to bed...I do...almost every night.

"...pick a title and make it a companion for however long it takes to read..." Again, I do this all the time with my Kindle...it's about the same size and weight as a paperback, I've got my title pre-loaded, I carry it around with me and turn it on...I'm right back on the page where I left off...

Although still not ready for prime-time for reference works (because of the formatting limitations), I love the concept of an ebook reader, and can't see going back to reading physical books for works of fiction...the trees will also thank me!

I think you will find that most avid readers would agree with Ray's position. Doesn't mean we hate e-Books, just that it isn't a true substitute (at this time) for dead trees.
