I've been a wasDISH subscriber for nearly 7 years was very happy until now I watched not only AMC but IFC a lot too. I'm getting ready to drop it.
Maybe i didnt understand the access part of the discussion quite right, but how is AMC able to "authenticate" who is a DISH sub and who isn't ? Is DISH forwarding to AMC its customer files? Did AMC already obtain them some other way? ???

It's going to be exciting to watch how this plays out. I do wonder if we will look back at Dish dropping AMC and DirectTV dropping MTV, Nick, Comedy Central, etc. as the thread that led to unraveling of the satellite and cable companies.

It is only a matter of time before major first-run goes online. I think now it is just a waiting game of "who is going to jump in first?" If these networks can show strong online demand for their shows suddenly they have some power. Once they can figure out a feasible way to monetize it bye bye the need for cable and satellite companies. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.
