I’m always eager to discover new content discovery apps, but I don’t feel the same excitement for TrapIt that I felt for Flipboard or Zite. The browsing discovery metaphor reminds me of Pulse, which has a good following, but is too “dynamic” for my taste. For the content discovery: A quick test, using keywords such as IPad and UX turned up just a few articles, none of them very relevant, all could be the result of a google search on "iPad".
In addition, for some articles, the “trap” categories seemed off topic. For example, a story on a laser shot paving the way to fusion energy is categorized under “Lasers” instead of multiple, more useful categories such as “Fusion” or “Energy” or “Future Power.” An article about the entire U.S. Olympic team is categorized under “Gymnastics Olympics.”
Even though I’m not impressed with TrapIt at first glance, I look forward to future versions with the hope of seeing better results.
