Michael, I don't think the value of Marissa as a rockstar is overlooked and given the board's direction, she brings attributes Yahoo needs.. Unfortunately, it also cost the services of someone who was good at selling and representing Yahoo, particularly in areas that aren't her expertise. I'm not sure there was a real chance to have both but the way it was handled by the board left little option.

Marissa Mayer is the right person for the Yahoo job. In addition to a boat load of credentials, accomplishments & contacts, her name recognition is priceless.

Yahoo is a substantively sound product, that with some detail work, can find its way back to maximizing its revenue potential.

What is perhaps overlooked & is a throw back to time past, is Yahoo's need for a "face of the franchise." Sports teams all leverage players for that role. So does business. Let's call it the "rockstar" effect.

Marissa Mayer is a rockstar, with substance.

Once her course is implemented, all the Yahoo history, Internet pioneer, strong financial site, etc., will kick in. All under the now recognizable leadership of Mayer.

Right move on all levels. Levinsohn or anyone else without real cred., experience & a rock star appeal did'nt stand a chance to get the opportunity.
