just to correct a comment below the article: no, the BBC isn’t a ‘government operation’. It is run by its DG and has a board of governors. It is funded mainly by a licence fee levied on TV owners in the UK.

Just a quick point re one of the comments -no, the BBC is not a ‘government operation’. It is independent of the UK government, although its funding has to be OK’d by the UK government -funding raised mainly via a ‘licence fee’ levied on all TV owners, and partly by sales from the commercial arm of the BBC.

What I have always liked about Thompson is that he has no tolerance for “what does not work” and old war horses beware, measurements mean something to this guy.

It seems simple out here in the free market that such an observation as above means anything, but think of the temptation it must have been to sit back, collect the salary and do nothing.
