Using these display positions to run content is going to become a lot more common. At Collective Content we're being asked to create assets (or whatever you want to call the content) that can appear in several places, including excerpts for the brief space in these units.

As an aside, this might also prove an easier way of measuring how effective a content-first approach is, through third-party ad serving platforms rather than directly from publishers when native ads appear in main content streams. Not always, but sometimes.

I like sponsored ads in general. I've never been a fan of the banner ad. Over the millions of banner ads I've seen I might have clicked on 5, maybe. GigaOm does the whole sponsored ads thing which I appreciate them being called out as sponsored. I guess it was just a matter of time before someone created an exchange and automated the process.

On the flip as a blogger I've seen a big uptick in marketeers trying to place what should be paid sponsored posts as guest posts for which I'm sure they are getting paid to do.
