Ofcom's data should be treated with caution because the survey was undertaken online, therefore all the respondents are already online consumers. It's not surprising then that online consumers - especially in a country like Italy where a wide digital divide still exists - are more likely to rely on the internet as their main source of news.

In the case of Italy, data from Eurobarometer (2011) show that television is still the dominant source of news (see our presentation here: http://www.slideshare.net/Quattrogatti/information-sources-and-the-use-of-media-in-italy-1), while only about half of the Italians have used the internet at least once a week in 2012 (see chart on page 2 here: http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/cache/ITY_OFFPUB/KS-SF-12-050/EN/KS-SF-12-050-EN.PDF).

For someone who has been in traditional media for the past 28 years, these statistics confirm one's gut feel. Media fragmentation to the current levels, aided by technology, could not but lead to the decline and fall of print and television media.

"We The people" have no choice in the matter if we want to know what's really happening in our own communities, or anywhere else for that matter.

Once the Oil/energy companies became the parent companies of the broadcasting networks true news went downhill.

True investigative journalism & reporting is no longer permitted.

The people of this country feel communism is bad, yet they don't realize "American Media is "Communism" controlled by the likes of companies such as BP who owns ABC, Disneyland, and than some. Actually I think most people do realize this & that's why we turn to the internet for "Truth" in news reporting.
