I think there are several other reasons incumbents in any industry don’t reinvent themselves, many of them psychological. How many companies from 50 years ago are around now, much less thriving?

This is very insightful. But the sad thing is, even some executives in the incumbent players do gets it, the big organization usually is too hard to turn easily. Re-invent oneself is always easy said than done.
