10-Q Watch: Yahoo Runs Up $36 Million In Legal, Other Costs Over Microsoft, Icahn In First Half

In its 10-Q filed with the SEC today, Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) said its numbers for Q2 and first half of 2008 include “incremental costs of $22 million and $36 million, respectively, for outside advisors related to Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Corporation’s (“Microsoft”) proposals to acquire all or a part of the Company, other strategic alternatives, the recently resolved proxy contest, and related litigation defense costs.” The second quarter ended June 30, so that doesn’t include July, which also should have been costly given the amount of time devoted to proxy issues. Microsoft and more.  That’s not all the costs, of course—and doesn’t begin to cover the amount Yahoo lost in sunk time, diverted internal resources and pure distraction.
