After Nine Years, Auto Community CarDomain Gets $3 Million In First Round

CarDomain.com, a community site for auto enthusiasts, has secured $3 million in a first round from co-founder Alex Algard, Seattle PI reported. The Seattle-based company had raised $250K in seed funding when it started nine years ago, but hasn’t sought additional financing since. Algard, who also founded WhitePages.com with an investment of $900 in 1997, had initially intended to obtain venture funding for CarDomain, but delays kept cropping up. Now, with the site growing, Algard feels the need to add new features to maintain and build its user base. The financing will support those new features, which will offer more forums and the ability for users to embed video into their car pages. And the site’s 1.5 million members will be asked to contribute their car knowledge on the automotive wiki that is scheduled to be unveiled sometime over the next month.
