AllThingsD: Really Live This Time
AllThingsD.com, the digital site from the Wall Street Journal and the fertile minds of D conference founders Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg is live, a little more than a week after the celebration ... Kara is one of our speakers at EconSM and looked awfully relaxed Wednesday night for someone launching a site. Not a lot of time to explore until after the conference but it looks much as I expected back in December when we were first to report about the new site: a clean look, a spotlight on work by the two executive editors and lots of video to start. The key editorial addition so far: John Paczkowski, late of GMSV. He’s blogging and doing a daily digital video.
—In the first-day edit offerings: BoomTown, Kara’s column turned blog, features some unsolicited advice for Yahoo chief Terry Semel, including a suggestion that Yahoo soin off search, possibly merging it with MSFT search and backup on the notion that Yahoo should buy Facebook for $1 billion.
—Speaking of Yahoo, Kara also tackles the issue of whether or not Jeff Weiner will be audience head of Yahoo. Her sources say the move isn’t likely. I’ve been told—as has she—that Weiner didn’t want the job for a variety of reasons but that some people at the company would like him to change his mind.
